A COUPLE OF SCHMOES
A Couple of Schmoes is the production company run by co-owners Brad Ross and Jonathan Rosenberg. They are producing The Walls of Sound, a documentary about Gold Star Recording Studios, a small Hollywood studio that helped shape the sound of American popular music. Brad’s father, Stan Ross, co-owned Gold Star with David Gold. From 1950 to 1984, artists including the Beach Boys, Ritchie Valens, and Tina Turner recorded there. Its custom-built equipment and famous echo chambers helped Phil Spector develop the Wall of Sound, heard on classics like the Ronettes’ “Be My Baby” and the Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’.” For Brad, this is also his family’s story. Through our film, we want to preserve that history and introduce audiences to the people whose creativity helped make these records part of our lives.
